GLA at the Dubai World Congress: Connecting Ideas, People, and the Future of Mobility

From September 22–25, the GLA delegation gathered in Dubai for the World Congress for Self-Driving Transport—four days marked by meaningful dialogue, global perspectives, and hands-on insight into the future of mobility and infrastructure.

From academic campuses to traffic control centers to international keynote stages, each day reinforced a shared truth: real progress happens when leaders across disciplines and borders come together to learn, listen, and collaborate.

Learning Across Systems and Sectors

The week began with an academic and operational lens on innovation.

On September 22, we had the privilege of visiting the American University of Sharjah (AUS), College of Engineering, engaging with faculty who are shaping the next generation of engineers and infrastructure leaders. These conversations highlighted how education, research, and industry must stay closely connected to meet the demands of rapidly evolving transportation systems.

On September 23, our delegation stepped inside Dubai’s Road & Transport Authority (RTA) Traffic Management Control Center, where we witnessed firsthand how integrated, smart systems keep one of the world’s most dynamic cities moving efficiently and safely. The day concluded with an evening reception that brought delegates and industry leaders together in a more informal setting.

These early visits set the tone for the week—grounding future-focused conversations in real-world application.

Bringing Leaders Together

Throughout the week, informal moments of connection complemented the formal program.

From campus discussions to evening gatherings, these settings created space for candid conversations, relationship-building, and shared reflection. At GLA, we believe these moments are essential—because lasting collaboration is built on trust as much as expertise.

Conversations Shaping the Future

The core of the World Congress unfolded on September 24–25, as GLA took part in three panel discussions and keynote sessions alongside government officials, global leaders, and industry innovators.

The conversations explored topics ranging from North America’s vision for World Cup 2026 mobility to the broader future of infrastructure, technology, and cross-border collaboration. Each session reinforced the importance of proactive leadership, shared frameworks, and partnership-driven solutions in navigating complex transportation challenges.

More Than an Event

Beyond the sessions, our time in Dubai was marked by cultural exchange, thoughtful dialogue, and a shared commitment to building smarter, more connected systems that serve communities around the world.

We’re grateful to our partners, speakers, and fellow delegates who made these days impactful—and proud to represent GLA on the global stage. We extend our sincere appreciation to:

Shawn Sanford, Theodora Oyie, Jonalyn Grageda, Sam Hassoun, Ehab Hasan, Scott Blair, Scott Rawlins, Tony Tavares, and Andy Palanisamy

Thank you for representing GLA with excellence and for contributing to conversations that continue to shape the future of mobility, infrastructure, and global collaboration.
